In the highly anticipated TV adaptation of the bestselling book 'Big Little Lies', fans were granted additional news to look forward to as actresses Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon were officially named among the cast of characters.
The novel, which was written by Liane Moriarty, revolves around the lives of three mothers with nursery school children. The serene suburban lives of these women eventually crumbled as they became involved in a murder mystery. The TV adaptation was written by David E. Kelley, a renowned producer and writer who won 10 Emmy Awards throughout his career.
Apart from portraying two of the major roles, both women optioned the screen rights to the widely acclaimed book. This means that both actresses will also serve as executive producers of the series. Hence, the show will be produced by Kidman's production house called 'Blossom Films' alongside Witherspoon's 'Pacific Standard'.
Other producers of the show include Kidman's production company partner, Per Saari, and Witherspoon's co-owner, Bruna Papandrea, as well as Moriarty herself.
Earlier this year, Witherspoon was recognized for serving as a producer for the movie 'Gone Girl', the film adaptation of another New York Times bestselling novel written by Gillian Flynn. She recently filmed 'Wild', a movie featuring the life of Cheryl Strayed, where she played the lead role. Her first appearance in the small screen was when she played the younger sister of Jennifer Aniston in the hit TV show 'Friends'.
Meanwhile, Kidman has produced remarkable works such as 'In the Cut', 'Rabbit Hole', and 'Monte Carlo'. At present, her production company is in the process of completing another project called 'The Family Fang'.
Moriarty is the first ever Australian author whose book's debut managed to land the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list. In addition to this hit novel, which was released last July 29, AMoriarty also penned several bestselling books such as 'The Husband's Secret', 'What Alice Forgot', 'The Hypnotist's Love Story', and 'Three Wishes'.
With respect to the representatives chosen by the major players involved in the deal, Kelley is represented by CAA and Gendler & Kelly. Kidman is represented by CAA as well alongside Shanahan Management and Jackoway Tyerman. Witherspoon is also represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Hansen Jacobson.
