At this stage, no deaths have been recorded following the Florida State University (FSU) library shootings that occurred early on Thursday. However, one student remains in critical condition at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where another person is in good condition and another has been discharged. All three of the those who were injured by 31-year-old Myron May are males, while one female managed to avoid being shot. The incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m., as students crammed for their end-of-term final exams.

May graduated from the university and went on to study at a Texas law school before finding work in a Floridian prosecutor's office. By the time he was shot dead by police officers outside the FSU library, he was unemployed, on medication and staying at the guesthouse of Abigail Taunton, who knew him since he was a teenager. Taunton told the media, "My heart's broken," while his ex-girlfriend filed a complaint with New Mexico police last month after he arrived at her home uninvited.

In addition to a belief that cameras had been planted in his room, May's Facebook page was predominantly filled with Bible verses and conspiracy theories about the U.S. government's mind-control activities. The police officers who arrived at the FSU scene ordered May to drop his handgun, but he responded by shooting at them and he was then fired upon by the officers -- officers believe that around 30 rounds of bullets were spent in the confrontation. Witnesses from the library described May as around 6 feet tall and wearing a red jumper.

The University's president, John Thrasher, released an official statement on Thursday, in which he described the incident as "isolated," and stated that the recovery process of the three injured people is the foremost priority of FSU. The University's Twitter account revealed that the campus remains open, but all classes have been canceled.
