After months of sustaining injuries caused by a fatal vehicular accident last June, comedian Tracy Morgan continues to fight for his recovery, his legal representative said this Tuesday.
The limo-bus crash did not only bring on injuries to the actor's ribs, leg and nose; attorney Benedict Morelli stated that Morgan is also suffering from a "severe brain injury."
While Morelli emphasized that the 46-year-old comedian is on a challenging path to recovery, he also said that there is no assurance as to when Morgan will fully recover from all his injuries.
"And if there's a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he's going to try to do that," Morelli said. "But we just don't know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury."
Earlier in June, a Walmart truck had crashed into a limo bus where Morgan had been riding in. The accident killed one of the passengers, James McNair, who had been Morgan's close pal and fellow comedian. Other passengers, including Morgan himself, sustained injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board previously released a report which stated that the Walmart truck had been running 20mph more than the speed limit. The truck driver, Kevin Roper, was also deemed to be unfit to be carrying the vehicle as he had almost reached his limit for driving time.
The following month, Morgan along with three other individuals filed charges against Walmart with which they stated that the giant retailer had been negligent, thereby causing the unfortunate incident.
In response, Walmart also submitted their argument that Morgan and his companies were partly to blame for their own injuries due to their "failure to properly wear an appropriate available seat belt restraint device."
Roper had already pleaded not guilty to the vehicular homicide as well as assault by automobile charges filed by Morgan's team.
Last Tuesday, legal representatives for both the actor and the retailer faced each other in court with which Morelli stated that "the jury is still out" with regards to the possibility of Morgan's full recovery. The actor's rep asserted that having a severe brain injury will require a long period of time to ascertain one's health status and full recovery.
Meanwhile, Morgan had already been admitted to the hospital for rehabilitation after the accident and took to social media last September to give thanks to his fans for their support.
