The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has re-elected the Reverend Elizabeth A. Eaton as presiding bishop.

At a vote taken on August 6th at the ELCA Churchwide Assembly, Rev. Elizabeth Eaton was elected 725 out of 897 votes cast. The Assembly will last up to August 10th.

"We're church, church first," Eaton said. "Our lives have their basis and meaning in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

The Assembly holds elections every six years to elect a presiding bishop. In 2013, the Assembly elected Pastor Eaton as the first female presiding bishop.
