Publisher Activision has just released the details for the upcoming "Awakening" DLC for "Call of Duty: Black Ops III."

However, the game will only arrive for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of the game.

As noted by PC Mag, those who purchased the Season Pass of "Call of Duty: Black Ops III" for $49.99. But, the DLC can also be purchased separately for $14.99 once it officially debuts.

"Awakening" is expected to come with four new multiplayer maps called Gauntlet, Splash, Rise and Skyjacked. The last map is a new version of Hijacked which debuted in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3."

The upcoming DLC will also feature the first story mode for the game's zombie-themed narrative. The first chapter, dubbed as Der Eisendrach, will let players go head-to-head with the undead in an Austrian castle set in the Second World War

The "Awakening" DLC is scheduled to arrive first for the PlayStation 4 on February 12 next year before launching for the Xbox One and PC platforms. As noted by Gamespot, the arrival of content updates for Sony's next-gen console is the result of Activision's deal with the tech giant.

According to the gaming news site, as part of the deal, the DLCs for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will come out first for the PlayStation 4 before hitting other consoles. As noted by Sony, the new deal serves as sort of an extension of its partnership with Activision for "Destiny."

It is not yet clear, however, when "Awakening" will debut for the PC and Xbox One. But, according to IGN, the DLC will be available to PC and Xbox One gamers 30 days after its official release for the PlayStation 4.

As for Activision's decision to snub last-gen consoles for the release of the DLC, it doesn't come as a surprise given the fact that the company announced earlier this year that the multiplayer for the latest entry in the "Call of Duty" franchise will not be available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

And, since "Awakening" is mainly focused on multiplayer gameplay, it only makes sense that the publisher and development studio Treyarch decided not to launch it on last-gen consoles.

"With 'Awakening,' the studio is focused on creating a wide variety of gameplay experiences for our fans in multiplayer and Zombies that will keep players coming back for more," Treyarch chief Mark Lamia said in a press release according to Screen Rant.
