"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn is thrilled that people are excited for its sequel, but at the same time, he is now going to stop confirming or denying any speculations concerning the movie because he would like to maintain an element of surprise for moviegoers when "Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2" finally hits cinemas in 2017.

"All right. From this moment on I'm going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it," he wrote on his Facebook page. "That said, the rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth. I don't know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn't through legitimate sources."

Gunn said that he understands the desire of some people and media entities to get "scoops" on character inclusion and casting choices, but he clarified: "Since when is a plot spoiler a 'scoop'? Is this really what fandom wants to know? Plot details in movies ahead of time?"

The director said he got into directing movies because he loves movies in general, and he strongly believes film journalists are the same way. However, spoiling plot details do not add to the enjoyment of the film-going experience, he said, so he lauded "those folks out there who don't partake in this sort of thing."

So until May 2017, Gunn is keeping his lips sealed tight regarding any spoiler concerning "Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2," and should fans come across some plot detail from the media, Gunn gave out a warning.

"If you do pick up on some plot detail between now and then, be aware, A) They are likely full of (expletive), as has been everyone so far who has claimed to have had inside info, and B) We're creating a film that doesn't rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They're only a very small part of what we're cooking up for you," he said.

In the comments section of his post, Gunn said that avid comic book readers will still have something different to explore in his movie. "We do deviate quite a bit from the comics, and that's with all due respect," he commented.

Gunn also explained that he owes it to fans not to lie to them so he refuses "to deny everything until something true comes up."
