The 2015 BET Awards recently honored none other than the Queen of Pop herself, the iconic Janet Jackson, and awarded her with the "Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award" during the ceremony on Saturday, according to New York Daily News.

In honor of the great artist, the organizers of BET Awards tapped on today's notable young stars to pay tribute to Jackson during the awarding ceremony. The musicians included in the performance roster include Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe.

"This is Janet Jackson, people! We are excited beyond belief to present her with our inaugural ULTIMATE ICON: Music Dance Visual award and we are thrilled that she chose the BET Awards as the first step on her new road," shared Stephen G. Hill, BET's President of Programming, in an official statement. He went on to say, "An inspiration to many other artists, 'Ms. Jackson' ('cause I'm nasty) blends music, dance and visuals in unique and groundbreaking ways and we look forward to celebrating her storied history as well as giving the BET Awards audience a peek into her Unbreakable future."

Apart from the three aforementioned singers, other musicians featured during the show were Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill and Chris Brown. As for the hosts of this year's BET Awards, Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson took on the roles. The list of presenters during the ceremony included Michael Ealy, Sanaa Lathan, Laverne Cox, Michael B. Jordan and Zendaya, according to UPI. Meanwhile, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Smokey Robinson. The event honored Tom Joyner as well with the Humanitarian Award.

Although the show as a success, the 2015 BET Awards faced backslash in connection with Jackson's award earlier this month. According to reports, the decision of the BET Awards committee with regard the artists chosen to pay tribute to Jackson earlier caused controversy as many fans and followers of the latter feel that the two did not deserve the slots, as reported by The Inqusitr.

After years of silence and abstinence from the spotlight, Jackson made her presence known by dropping her newest single, No Sleeep, last week. Quickly climbing the top of the charts, the single overtook a number of songs released in its wake, according to Billboard. As per the practice of most stars these days, news of Jackson's new single was also broken through social media. She posted on Twitter, "I dedicate this to My Love. https://youtu.be/v_2_VgUdeq4 #NoSL333P #ConversationsInACafe"
