Sarah Palin is no longer a Fox News employee. Politico first reported the news on Wednesday, June 24. Palin is the former governor of Alaska and Republican party running mate to U.S. Senator John McCain. Her last appearance on Fox News was on June 8. The news network and Palin reportedly had an amicable split.

Palin’s contract with Fox expired on June 1, 2015. They reached a mutual decision to not renew the contract. Palin began her job as a paid political commentator on Fox on January 2010. She will continue to make appearances on the television network, but will no longer be a paid contributor.

Her Facebook and Twitter banners were updated on late Wednesday night to a statement she made in her 2008 GOP speech in Dayton, Ohio. “I didn't get into government to do the safe and easy things. A ship in harbor is safe, but that's not why the ship is built,” is written on a scenic photo of Alaska’s landscape in bold gray letters. The photo featured a lone boat floating in water, tall pine trees, an island, and mountains.

“Well, it's always, though, safer in politics to avoid risk, to just kind of go along with the status quo. But I didn't get into government to do the safe and easy things. A ship in harbor is safe, but that's not why the ship is built. Politics isn't just a game of competing interests and clashing parties. The people of America expect us to seek public office and to serve for the right reasons. And the right reason is to challenge the status quo and to serve the common good. Now, no one expects us to agree on everything, whether in Juneau or in Washington. But we are expected to govern with integrity and goodwill and clear convictions and a servant's heart,” said Palin in her speech at Dayton, Ohio on August 2008.

Her recent reference to a GOP speech made years ago in a national platform may be a prelude to the upcoming 2016 Presidential Elections. Five years ago when she was asked the looming question, she said that she would run for presidency if “it’s right for the country.” She added that she “won’t close the door that perhaps could open” for her “in the future.”

Prior to becoming McCain’s running mate in 2008, Palin was largely unknown outside of Alaska. In 2009, she resigned from her gubernatorial duties to avoid a lame duck position. She was quoted to say that she wanted to avoid milking taxpayer money for her paycheck and travel expenses during a lame duck period. Palin is the wife of Todd and the mother of five children. Her children are Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig. She is 51 years old and is a nondenominational Christian.

A Brief History of Her Time In Office:

1992: Elected into Wasilla City Council as a Republican.

1996: Elected as Mayor of Wasilla.

1999: As President of the Alaska Conference of Mayors, she cut property taxes by 75% and reduced her own salary by 10%. She improved Alaskan roads, sewers, and water management. She also supported the building of the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center. The spending put Wasilla into a $25 million deficit. She then lobbied for city funds and received $8 million from Roberston, Monagle, and Eastaugh.

2006: Elected as the first female Governor of Alaska, also the youngest one at age 42. Her gubernatorial expenses were 80% lower than Frank Murkowski, her predecessor.

2007: Supported the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in killing hundreds of wolves to boost moose and caribou populations.

2008: Agreed to the building of The Gravina Island Bridge in the city of Ketchikan (population 50), which was called a “Bridge to Nowhere” by the media. Later, the bridge building was stopped due to large opposition.

2008: Supported the building of the TransCanada Pipelines which would take natural gas from Alaskan reserves and transport it through Canada to the rest of the United States.
