Two new stars will be joining 'The Croods 2' as the film gears up for its production phase. Kat Dennings from 'Two Broke Girls' and Leslie Mann of 'Mr. Peabody & Sherman' are set to take part of the upcoming sequel scheduled for release on Dec. 22, 2017, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Their participation in 'The Croods 2' was confirmed by both Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria from DreamWorks Animation. "Kat Dennings and Leslie Mann are both brilliant comedic actresses, and we're so excited to add them to the mix for The Croods 2, where they'll join an already stellar and hilarious returning cast including Emma Stone and Nicolas Cage," the duo said in a joint statement.

While no concrete plot details have been revealed since the confirmation of the news that a sequel to the 2013 blockbuster will be made, there various speculations that pertain to the possible roles of both Dennigs and Mann in the upcoming film. According to the rumor mill, the Croods will be facing a new family in this sequel. The Hollywood Reporter describes this new group as "upscale," and will be headed by none other than Mann herself. As the matriarch of the new family, it will come as no surprise if the actress goes head to head with Nicolas Cage's character and the Croods' patriarch, Grug. A rivalry will soon ensue.

Meanwhile, Dennings is described to be the "frustrated" daughter of the new family. While her instincts dictate her to hunt and engage in various physical activities, her "civilized" parents forbid her from doing so. Among the members of the Croods' family, it may be possible that Dennings' character to find a friend in Emma Stone's role, Eep, who is the aggressive daughter of Grug.

'The Croods 2' will see the return of Cage's 'Grug,' Stone's 'Eep,' Catherine Kenner's motherly 'Ugga,' Clark Duke's dim-witted 'Thunk,' Cloris Leachman's feisty granda 'Gran' and Ryan Reynolds' cool and calm 'Guy.'  Apart from the actors reprising their roles, the sequel will also feature Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders in the writing team and director's chair.
