Super Saiyan Goku returns to protect planet Earth from intergalactic villains and ruthless androids in an all new 2015 ‘Dragon Ball Z’ series. ‘Dragon Ball Super’ will debut on July 2015. The 2015 television series was announced by Toei Animation in a press release on Tuesday, April 28.

The new series will possibly feature original characters Gohan, Piccolo, Vegeta, Trunks, Bulma, Krillin, Master Roshi, Chaozu, and Android 18. It is the first release of new episodes since eighteen years. The story line follows the events of recent film ‘Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F’ which released in theaters on May 30.

“I’ve used the word ‘cho’ (super) in so many commercials, games and other media, it is fantastic that the long awaited ‘Dragon Ball Super’ will finally begin. I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor,” said Goku, Gohan, and Gotu voice actress Masako Nozawa in a press release on Tuesday.

Dragon Ball was first introduced in 1984 as a manga in “Weekly Shonen Jump,” a magazine. It sold over 230 million comic books since its debut.

“Having loved Dragon Ball since childhood, it is very exciting to be a part of this project,” said Osamu Nozaki, producer for Fuji Television. “Mr. Toriyama has developed a plot that’s not only a dream come true for Dragon Ball’s millions of fans, but one that will foster in a new generation of viewers.”
