Phil Miller has the freedom to do anything and everything except interact with other human beings when he becomes the sole survivor of a deadly pandemic. After enjoying the perks of a new world order, Phil grows increasingly lonesome and embarks on a journey in hopes of finding other survivors. People begin to miraculously appear in Tucson, Arizona, where Phil has settled. Phil, Carol, Erica, Gail, Melissa, Todd, and another Phil are the only seven people alive on Earth. Season 1 Episode 12 “The Tandyman Can” aired on FOX on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
In Ep. 12 “The Tandyman Can,” all of the women fall in love with the new Phil Miller almost as easily as they grew to hate the old Phil Miller. The old Phil Miller has his sense of identity taken away when the community decides that he go by his middle name, Tandy. Phil is helpful, gorgeous, and perfect while Tandy is a self-centered liar who does things to benefit himself and has proven himself deficient at co-existing with others. Tandy is impeached and Phil is unanimously elected into office as the new President of the United States.
"Who does this guy think he is? He's taken my name, he's stealing all my chores," complains Tandy to his lifeless sports equipment friends down at the bar.
Carol and Phil fall for each other. As charming and perfect Phil is, he falls for Carol’s personality and good nature. Instead of seeing Carol’s faults, Phil sees Carol and loves everything about her, including her quirky laugh and gifts. Todd and Melissa break up because he thinks that Melissa and Phil would make a perfect couple. Todd is insecure and jealous. He single-handedly ruins a good relationship by breaking up with her.
"Don't hang out with him. If this relationship is gonna work, you can't see him. I forbid it," demands Todd to Melissa after seeing her ride in the back of Phil's garbage truck.
Erica and Gail compete to win Phil’s attention. Tandy and Todd find themselves sitting in the same boat as they both feel as though Phil has taken everything away from them. Todd is no longer the sweet guy he once was. He is actually morphing into Tandy. The two men decide to kill Phil.
The show stars Will Forte as Phil Miller, Kristen Schaal as Carol Pilbasian-Miller, January Jones as Melissa Shart, Mel Rodriguez as Todd, Cleopatra Coleman as Erica, Mary Steenburgen as Gail, and Boris Kodjoe as Phil Miller.
