Earth has one survivor left after a deadly pandemic wipes out the entire population of human beings from the face of the planet, or so it seemed. Phil Miller believes he is 'The Last Man on Earth,’ but that does not keep him from searching for more survivors. Season 1 Episode 10 “Pranks for Nothin’” aired on Fox on Sunday, April 12, 2015.
‘The Last Man on Earth' is set in year 2020. Phil (Will Forte) travels all across the North American continent searching for survivors. It is fun and games until he desperately fails to find anyone. Realizing that life is unfruitful and meaningless without community, he cries out to God for a female companion. Instantly, Carol (Kristen Schaal) walks into his life. Although, Carol is not his ideal type, they marry to re-populate the earth. Their situation parallels a futuristic version of Adam and Eve from the Bible’s Book of “Genesis.” Phil and Carol’s marriage breaks after the discovery of survivors Melissa, Todd, Erica, and Gail.
In Ep. 10 “Pranks for Nothin,’” Phil is reprimanded by the entire community for his lying, cheating ways. In the previous Ep., Phil discovered two women, Erica and Gail after praying to God again. Phil had asked for a “do over.” He hid them from the community and lied to the women that he was the last man on earth. When he is caught, Carol officially divorces Phil.
The cast members of the show are Will Forte as Phil Miller, Kristen Schaal as Carol Pilbasian-Miller, January Jones as Melissa Shart, Mel Rodriguez as Todd, Cleopatra Coleman as Erica, and Mary Steenburgen as Gail. Ep. 10 was written by Emily Spivey and directed by Chris Koch.
