Motorola's 'renaissance' began with the Moto X in 2013, which was considered one of the most popular high-end handsets from the company in the last couple of years. While the Moto G took the crown for the best midranger in the Android world, it was clear that the Moto X lineup is preparing a bright future for Motorola.

Almost two years later and the Moto X lineup is still going strong.

And in a new report by Phone Arena, the next version will be released later this year, following Motorola's usual trend of announcement dates. The report came from a statement by Motorola President Rick Osterloh himself.

In the Tweet by Osterloh, he mentioned that they (Motorola) are trying their best to keep their annual 'cycle'.

"We try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products including the Moto X", said Osterloh in the social media post.

So what do we know right now about the Motorola Moto X (2015)? Hardly anything.

But based on a report almost two months ago, it seems Qualcomm and Motorola have confirmed that the new flagship model would run on the Snapdragon 810 chipset that has eight cores and supports 64-bit applications.

While this is definitely great news for Motorola fans, this may not bid them well in the race for Android supremacy.

Currently, there are already a number of high-powered Android flagships that were announced, and most of them will be hitting their initial markets beginning next month.

Some of these handsets include the HTC One M9 from HTC, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge , Xiaomi's Mi Note Pro and Mi Note, Huawei's P8 flagship, and a couple more high-end devices from Chinese brands.

The problem with Motorola's schedule is that it allows other smartphones to get a hold of the market during the first two quarters of the year. In an industry that is fast-changing, timing is everything.

Apple, a company that often makes big announcements by the latter half of the year, held an event in March. And to consider its list of announced devices, it may be considered a major event after it unveiled the MacBook 2015, new models of the MacBook Airs and Pros, as well as the Apple Watch.

However, it seems the Lenovo-owned manufacturer will just stick with its usual schedule for announcements.
