Activision is reportedly gearing up to unveil a new "Guitar Hero" game next month.

News about the latest installment of the music-themed video game series emerged after UK-based news site Gamereactor released an article regarding event invitations sent out by the game publisher.

The article was immediately pulled out by the site but NeoGaf managed to capture a snippet from the report.

According to the posting, Activision has sent out invitations to journalists in Germany for an event happening on April 1 of this year. The event will be held in "Hamburg Rock City."

No other specific details were mentioned but the article noted that Activision would appreciate it if the event participants would "rock the shack with us!" Gamereactor pointed out that this phrase indicates that the event is related to a music-themed game.

The latest rumor about a possible "Guitar Hero 7" game coincides with a report by Kotaku in late February regarding the development of the project.

Based on two different sources, the gaming news site mentioned that Activision is working on a new "Guitar Hero" game and is preparing to unveil it to the public during this year's E3 event.

The insiders said the game will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will take on a more realistic approach.

If rumors about "Guitar Hero" are true, then it would seem that 2015 could mark the return of musical video games. Recently, game development studio Harmonix announced that it is aiming to release "Rock Band 4" this year.

According to Alex Rigopulos, the COO of Harmonix, although the new "Rock Band" game will not deviate too much from the traditional game play of the series, the latest installment will be different from other games of the same genre.

"None of the games in the genre really delivered a lot of innovation, or maybe the right kind of innovation in the experience during that period," the executive told IGN. "Consumers want something new. We view it as a responsibility to deliver that innovation this time around."
