The Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board (IMB) has decided to lift a decade-long ban on candidates who spoke in tongues or belonged to a church that disagreed with the convention’s view on baptism. Russell Moore, the president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention, has called for the national Church to dedicate itself to prayer for the sanctity of marriage on a Supreme Court hearing that will be happening on April 28. On that day, the Supreme Court will receive oral arguments involving several cases on same-sex marriage for about two and a half hours. The arguments will be mainly dealing with the two questions: 1) Does the Fourteenth Amendment require a state to license a marriage between two people of the same sex? 2) Does the Fourteenth Amendment require a state to recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-state?READ MORE

On April 12, Beloved International, a para-church ministry dedicated to the work of fighting against the orphan crisis in Africa, held a benefit concert at the University of California, Irvine. The benefit concert was titled, “Huruma,” which is the Swahili word for compassion. Another terrible act of violence by Islamic fundamentalists happened on the morning of April 2 at Garissa University College in Kenya. Armed terrorists who associate themselves as part of an Islamic terrorist group, al-Shabaab, stormed into the university. The attack lasted for over 15 hours. According to the official Twitter account of Kenya’s National Disaster Operation Centre and Kenyan media reports, a total of 147 people were killed, 79 injured, and 587 evacuated.READ MORE

From March 27-29, Church Everyday in Northridge, California hosted The Truth Matters Conference featuring speakers from Ravi Zacharias International Ministries and Stand to Reason. The goal of the conference was to “to help young people think about the credibility of the Christian faith, and to train them to make a gracious defense of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” according to the conference website.
