As the Korean World Mission Conference is quickly approaching, organizers of the event have been hosting gatherings to prepare and pray for the event. The most recent preparation gathering took place on Tuesday at Grace Ministries International in Fullerton, CA.

Many of the Korean pastors who are well-known in the Southern California Korean church community, including Rev. Ezra Kang of Jesus Awakening Movement for America and Rev. Paul Kihong Han of Grace Ministries International, were present, and in particular, Han noted, “The event is launching under difficult circumstances, but let us prepare so that we will be able to welcome with gladness the missionaries who have been working hard to share the gospel and so that the event will overflow with blessings.”
KWMC has taken place once every four years, and previously, the event had been hosted at Wheaton College in Illinois. This year will be the first KWMC that is taking place in Southern California at Azusa Pacific University. While previous conferences have also usually taken place in July, this year, the event will be taking place in June, from June 6 to 10.
These circumstances have made preparations and gathering attendees more difficult, organizers explained during another preparation gathering that took place earlier this month.
“If we had organized the conference to take place in the Midwest, about 3,000 attendees could have been secured, but since it is our first time hosting the event in the Southwest, it hasn’t been easy,” shared Suk-Hee Ko, the secretary-general of the Korean World Mission Council for Christ. “But the fire of missions must be ignited in Southern California, where the most amount of Korean Americans live.”

As of May 11, some 820 missionaries were registered for the conference. Organizers expressed hopes that at least 1,000 missionaries, 2,000 pastors and lay members, and 5,000 youth and young adults would attend the conference, and that some 7,000 would attend the night sessions.
Organizers have been gathering every night between 8 PM and 10 PM to pray for the conference. They have also been visiting churches to encourage pastors and lay members to attend.
