Korean First Presbyterian Church (KFPC) in Atlanta held an outreach festival for the children’s ministry on April 3. The outreach festival began a few years ago, when it used to be called ‘street festival,’ after Pastor Bong-Sung Kim, who leads the children’s ministry at KFPC, visited a Wednesday night service at a church in New York City during which a Saturday street evangelism event was announced.
This event, the name of which has since been changed to ‘outreach festival,’ involves visiting the homes of the children who are part of KFPC’s children’s ministry, and inviting their neighbors to a day of games, food, the Word, and sharing of the gospel. Children make their own invitations, receive evangelism cubes and tracts from their pastor, and learn and practice how to share the gospel.
“We expected that not many people would come this year since it fell near the spring break,” said Kim. “But we believed that it’s important for the children to be able to share with people they’ve met for the first time about Jesus, so we decided not to place so much significance on the sheer numbers.”
“At first, only three friends from the neighborhood came, but after we spread out into groups with parents and children to personally knock on doors and invite people, about 20 people came by our festival by the end of the day,” Kim added.
The next outreach festival will take place during the church’s VBS, which will start on June 1 and end on June 4.
