Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie will be seen next in season two of Top of the Lake, set in New Zealand and Australia, and will be ready for telecast early next year.

Co-produced by Sundance Channel in the US, the highly successful mystery drama is written by Jane Champion and Gerard Lee.

"I am so delighted to be working on Top of the Lake 2...Jane Campion has been a major creative influence throughout my life," Christie told Variety.

Christie will be co-starring with ace Elisabeth Moss (of Mad Men fame), who had the role of detective Robin Griffin in season one.

Season one had Robin Griffin investigating the disappearance of Tui Mitcham, a 12-year-old pregnant girl, over a frozen lake.

The plot of the story for this season is not revealed in detail yet, but seems like something to look forward to for next year.

"I've read three scripts so far and I'm incredibly excited where Jane is taking the story and the character," Christie was quoted as saying by Deadline.

The BBC reported that the new season will be about a murder mystery, set four years after the season one story, where the corpse of an Asian girl is seen washed up on Sydney's Bondi Beach.
