"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" did a fantastic job in introducing new characters to the franchise, such as Daisy Ridley's Rey. Audiences warmed up to her character immediately, and as the story unfolded, the question of her parentage loomed even more.

Although the film did not really answer who her parents are, theories have already been formulated concerning her lineage.

The most obvious, according to Collider, is that she is the daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa, and Kylo Ren is her brother.

"This would certainly tee up a shocking showdown between Rey and her brother Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) to rival the Luke/Vader confrontation in 'The Empire Strikes Back,' and would also explain the knowing glances that Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (General Leia) give Rey within the context of 'The Force Awakens,'" they said.

Also, Han Solo warmed up quickly to Rey despite his temperament, and they uncannily share the same deep knowledge of mechanics and almost always finish each other's sentences.

But if they really are her parents, people questioned why the two had to abandon her at Jakku.

"Many have already started to float the theory that Rey was part of the young padawans in training at Luke's Jedi Camp when Kylo turned bad and went on a murderous spree a la his grandfather. The thinking here is that Han and Leia quickly got Rey out of danger, then abandoned her on Jakku to keep her away from her brother," they said.

The next guess is that Rey is the offspring of General Leia's brother Luke Skywalker and a mystery woman.

"First of all, Luke Skywalker should not be having kids. We know his personal history, we know his family history, and so one would think he'd abstain from procreating to in an act of self-sacrifice. However, if Luke did father a child, Rey could certainly be it," they said.

If Luke was indeed Rey's father, the showdown between her character and Kylo Ren would be a little less intense, but it would heighten the training she would receive from Luke, if he does decide to train her.

Of course, there is always the possibility that Rey is the daughter of unknown characters in the franchise, "but given that these new episodes are still definitely part of the 'Star Wars' saga, it feels counterintuitive to give Rey zero connection to the original films."
