"Futurama," the television series developed by "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, is making a comeback in the form of a mobile game.

The game is currently being developed by Germany-based Wooga, the creator of various mobile and Facebook titles such as "Diamond Dash," "Crazy Kings" and "Farm Tales."

According to an official announcement from the studio, the mobile game based on the animated television series is being created in partnership with Fox Digital Entertainment. The upcoming game, called "Futurama: Game of Drones," will let players take control of the series' main characters, IGN reported.

In the game, the players will go up against MomCo, the rival shipping company of Bender, Fry and Leela's Planet Express.

"The game, titled 'Futurama: Game of Drones,' takes players in a journey with the Planet Expfress crew as they fight a desperately imbalanced trade war against longtime shipping rival MomCo," Wooga wrote in a blog post.

"While delivering dangerous cargo to hazardous locations under ill-advised circumstances, players connect groups of delivery drones to solve an array of fiendish puzzles as they venture into iconic environments from the 'Futurama' universe," the studio continued.

According to Wooga, the plot of "Futurama: Game of Drones," is based on the storyline penned by a team of developers. These include Dave Grossman, the developer known for his various games such as "The Monkey Island" series, Jonathan Myers, creator of "Game of Thrones: Ascent" and Patric M. Verrone, one of members of the "Game of Drones" writing team.

Wooga however, did not mention when the game will come out or what mobile platforms it will debut on. At this point, it's a bit hard to speculate on the exact release date of the game since the studio did not mention a timeline regarding the development status of "Game of Drones."

"Futurama: Game of Drones, is not the first video game adaptation of the popular animated series. In 2003, Unique Development Studios and Sierra Entertainment released a platform game titled "Futurama" for the PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube consoles.

The "Futurama" television series was first aired by the Fox Broadcasting Company in 1999. It ran for seven seasons with a total of 140 episodes. The show featured various prominent voice actors including Billy West, Katey Sagal, John DiMaggio and Phil Lamar. It is not yet clear, however, if these actors will return to reprise their roles in the "Futurama: Game of Drones" mobile game.
