Publisher Activision confirmed through a latest update that the upcoming "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will not have a single-player campaign mode.

According to the company, it decided to omit the major feature due to the technical limitations of the last-gen consoles, Lazy Gamer reported.

Although the first-person shooter game series is widely known for its multiplayer mode, gamers still enjoy its campaign gameplays. For this year's game, that "Black Ops 3" narrative will focus on a dystopian future where cybernetics has become the dominant tool in military warfare. Through a cooperative gameplay system, a group of up to four players will be able work together to complete the game's story.

Unfortunately, only Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC gamers will be able to enjoy this story mode. As explained by Activision, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are being handled by its partner developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology.

However, due to certain technical aspects, the studios cannot recreate the same campaign experience on next-gen consoles for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Instead, owners of last-gen consoles will only be able to the game's multiplayer and Zombies modes

"As we announced back in June, we know that there are still fans waiting to make the switch to the newest console hardware and developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the 'Black Ops 3' gameplay as possible to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," Activision wrote in the "Call of Duty" blog.

"The 'Black Ops 3' PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not campaign," the company continued. "The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware."

Aside from the single-player mode, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers will also not be able to enjoy the upcoming game's Weapon Paint Shop and eSports tools features.

Since the last-gen console version of the game will be missing a key feature, it will be released at a lower price than its PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC counterparts. The game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be sold at $49.99 and will come with a free download of the first "Call of Duty: Black Ops" game, according to Cinema Blend.

The next-gen and PC versions of the game, on the other hand, can be purchased for $59.99. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be released on November 6.
