Rafael Nadal Plays in Sony Ericsson Open

Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray; the Big Four advanced to Round 2 of the US Open 2015 at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens. The US Open can be watched on ESPN 2 and livestreamed from the ESPN website.

Nadal defeated Argentine player Diego Schwartzman in a sweeping straight sets win on Wednesday and advances to Round 3. Djokovic is scheduled to play against Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT. Murray goes against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino on Thursday at 12 p.m. and Federer plays against Belgian Steve Darcis on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Novak Djokovic:

Djokovic defeated Joao Souza in a straight sets victory on Day 1. The match last 73 minutes. Djokovic, ATP’s No. 1 player scored a total of eight aces against Souza.
“With a dominant win like the one today, it adds to your confidence, your self-belief,” said Djokovic. “I couldn’t ask for a better opening of this year’s US Open. Hopefully, I can continue in that rhythm.”

Rafael Nadal:

Nadal won against Borna Coric in Round 1 on Monday. Nadal called the match an “important victory.” It was their second time meeting, after Coric defeated Nadal in a straight sets victory at the Swiss Indoors Basel in Oct. 2014. Nadal attributed the win to a “great week of practice.”
“The first two sets I played a very high level,” said Nadal. “Then I got a little bit tired. I had some problems. I was sweating a lot. I lost a little bit, I didn’t feel strong enough.”
R1 – Mon. Aug. 31: 6-3, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 vs. Borna Coric
R2 – Wed. Sept. 2: 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 vs. Diego Schwartzman

Andy Murray:

Murray, who beat Australian Nick Kyrgios on Tuesday commented on his opponent’s erratic behavior on the court. Kyrgios complained about late fans and the roof lights. He also tossed his racket aside. Kyrgios said that Murray’s defense was “unbelievable.”
“Just sort of five- or 10-minute periods in the match, it happens a little bit too often “where he has dips, misses a few serves, like gets distracted or loses concentration. That’s where I capitalized tonight,” said Murray.

Roger Federer

Federer, along with Stan Wawrinka are two of the oldest players competing in the US Open. Federer beat Argentine player Leonardo Mayer on Tuesday.
"I think it's going to increase the level of play from all players. If you don't have to fight the wind you can play closer to the lines and make it better tennis. So probably it might be better for the top guys, my opinion," said Federer.
