T-Mobile has just become the first network carrier in the U.S. to cut down the prices of Samsung's current flagship smartphones.

According to reports, the carrier's actions are part of Samsung's plan to lower the prices of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in an effort to rebound from a disappointing fiscal quarter.

The discounts that T-Mobile is currently offering apply to all storage variants of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices. Both the 32 and 64GB variants of the two models are currently up for sale with a $100 discount, GSM Arena has learned.

So now, consumers can purchase the Galaxy S6 with 32GB of internal storage for $579, instead of its original price of $679.

The price of the 128GB version of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, on the other hand, has been cut down by $200. This means the former with 128GB can now be purchased for $659 while the latter with the same internal storage costs $759.

Currently, T-Mobile is the only carrier in the country that's offering discounts on the flagship devices. However, since Samsung has announced its plans to lower the prices of the two models, it's probably safe to assume that other carriers in the country will soon follow in T-mobile's footsteps.

The South Korean tech giant made the drastic decision shortly after reporting the company's earnings for the second quarter of this year.

According to the report, the profits of the Samsung's mobile department fell by 4 percent compared to its first quarter earnings. This translates to a loss of 4.42 trillion won based on the same quarter of the previous year.

In a report by Android Authority, the poor performance of the company was attributed to its failure in gauging the demand of consumers. Before the release of the flagship devices, Samsung assumed that more users will go for the Galaxy S6 instead of its Edge counterpart.

As a result, the company bulked up its supply for the former device. However, it turned out that consumers preferred the Galaxy S6 Edge over the Galaxy S6. This then left the company with a surplus of Galaxy S6 models and not enough Galaxy S6 Edge devices to satisfy customers' demands.

But, it seems this isn't the only major reason behind Samsung's low quarterly sales. According to analysts, the financial report clearly shows that Samsung cannot compete with Apple in terms of consumers' brand loyalty, Droid Life reported.
