A picture is worth a thousand words. Oliver and Kate Hudson’s photos on Instagram revealed a large chunk of their family’s history with two old photos. The siblings each posted a different photo on Sunday, June 21, Father’s Day 2015. Two brief sentences served as captions for the photos that summed it all up for the public. Oliver cited their biological father’s past of abandoning their family, while Kate honored their stepdad with a message of love.

‘Nashville’ actor Oliver shared a childhood picture of himself, his biological father Bill Hudson, and younger sister Kate. Oliver is wearing a red tee shirt and Kate is in a white dress. The trio is all smiles in the photo, yet the caption revealed a deep level of hurt in the lives of the two actors.

“Happy abandonment day… @katehudson,” wrote 38-year-old Oliver. The post received 5,386 likes on Instagram.
