A father is the fastest, strongest, smartest, and most handsome man in the world to their child. He is their hero, role, model, and provider all wrapped into one. Father's Day is celebrated on Sunday, June 21. The day celebrates fatherhood, male parenting, and family bonds. He is a support system for the emotional, financial, spiritual, social, and physical needs of a family. Father’s Day is the one time of the year to cordially thank fathers for everything they do. It exists to remind them that they are loved, appreciated, and honored. The Oxford dictionary defines a father as “a man who gives care and protection to someone or something.” Another definition of father refers to God, the first person in the Trinity.

Historically, Father’s Day began in July 1908. Grace Golden Clayton organized the first Father’s Day church service at Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church following a town mining disaster which left an estimated 1,000 children fatherless. The disaster known as the Monongah Mining Disaster killed 250 fathers. U.S. President Calvin Coolidge first recognized Father’s Day at a national level in 1924. In 1972, President Richard Nixon announced the annual national observance of Father’s Day on the third week of June.

10 Bible Verses to Honor Dad:

1) "Then I said to you, ‘Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The LORD your God who goes before you will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes, and in the wilderness, where you have seen how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, all the way that you went until you came to this place.’” Deuteronomy 1:29-31
2) “Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:9-11
3) “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” John 14:2
4) “And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven.” Matthew 23:9
5) “The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.” Proverbs 10:1
6) “And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and cet us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.” Luke 15:20 -23
7) “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
8) “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),…4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:2, 4
9) “And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Galatians 4:6
10) “Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” Proverbs 23:22

10 Quotes On The Importance of A Father::

1) “I believe that what we become depends on what our fathers teach us at odd moments, when they aren't trying to teach us. We are formed by little scraps of wisdom.” ― Umberto Eco, Foucault's Pendulum
2) “That was when the world wasn't so big and I could see everywhere. It was when my father was a hero and not a human.” ― Markus Zusak, I Am the Messenger
3) “Listen, there is no way any true man is going to let children live around him in his home and not discipline and teach, fight and mold them until they know all he knows. His goal is to make them better than he is. Being their friend is a distant second to this.” ― Victor Devlin
4) “Being a role model is the most powerful form of educating...too often fathers neglect it because they get so caught up in making a living they forget to make a life.” ― John Wooden
5) “There is nothing that moves a loving father's soul quite like his child's cry.” ― Joni Eareckson Tada
6) “Children are gifts. They are not ours for the breaking. They are ours for the making.” ― Dan Pearce, Single Dad Laughing
7) “The greatest thing a father can do for his children is to respect the woman that gave birth to his children. It is because of her that you have the greatest treasures in your life. You may have moved on, but your children have not. If you can’t be her soulmate, then at least be thoughtful. Whom your children love should always be someone that you acknowledge with kindness. Your children notice everything and will follow your example.” ― Shannon L. Alder, 300 Questions LDS Couples Should Ask for a More Vibrant Marriage
8) “Let me say for now that we knew once the Creation was broken, true fathering would be much more lacking than mothering. Don't misunderstand me, both are needed- but an emphasis on fathering is necessary because of the enormity of its absence” ― Wm. Paul Young, The Shack
9) “Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father.” ― Lydia Maria Francis Child
10) Spiritual fathers have influence over the lives of individuals. Patriarchs have influence over families. The devil has been able to destroy families because there is a lack of spiritual fathers and patriarchs.” ― Sherry K. White
