The revival of the cult classic, "The X-Files," has gained quite a buzz around the Internet and it is set to excite fans and followers of the show even more as reports reveal that "Community" leading man, Joel McHale, will be part of the show as a guest star. According to Deadline, McHale's casting is the first news regarding the potential characters to watch out for in the upcoming reboot of the said TV series. However, it should be taken note that "The X-Files"

McHale will reportedly play the role of a news anchor, named Tad O'Malley, of a widely popular conservative news network. With the comedian's character description, his presence in the show turns an interesting turn when O'Malley becomes a seemingly dubious ally of David Duchovny's character, FBI Agent Fox Mulder. Apart from Duchovny, Gillian Anderson will be reprising her role as FBI Agent Dana Scully. Another series regular, Mitch Pileggi who plays Walter Skinner, will be joining the cast as well.

Earlier this year, Duchovny told USA Today that the possibility of seeing "The X-Files" on air once again is definitely plausible. He said. "I'm assuming that it will happen sooner rather than later now." The 54-year-old added, "We'll see what form, how many (episodes). Certainly I can't nor would I be interested in doing a full season. It will be in some kind of limited form. We're all old, we don't have the energy for a full season."

Last month, Duchovny confirmed with Entertainment Weekly that he already received and read the script. He confessed, "I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page." Duchovny explained, "It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I'd been talking about this for a long time. We'd been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox."

Meanwhile, the plots for the upcoming revival will be penned by the show's creator as well, Chris Carter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carter will also serve as the TV series' executive producer. The report states that the move to revive "The X-Files" came roughly 13 years since the show stopped airing. In 2008, Duchovny and Anderson reunited onscreen with another "The X-Files" project, called "The X-Files: I Want to Believe."

"The X-Files" is set to hit the small screen on Jan. 24, 2016.
