Samsung has now made the Android 5.0 Lollipop update available for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4.

The roll out comes weeks after the tablet's larger counterpart, the Galaxy Tab S with 10.5-inch display, received the update, GSM Arena reported.

The update is currently available as an over-the-air download to Galaxy Tab S users residing in South Korea through Samsun Kies. There are no details yet as to when the update will arrive for users in the United States and in other countries.

However, as pointed out by Gotta Be Mobile, given Samsung's unpredictable nature when it comes to the schedule of its update releases, it might take a couple of weeks or even months before users in other countries can upgrade to the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

In addition, the update is only available for the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 variant. It is still not yet clear if or when the Lollipop OS will arrive for the device's LTE or 4G counterpart.

Samsung came up with the Galaxy Tab S devices by creating a hybrid product between the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S series.

The Galaxy Tab S 8.4 was first released in July of last year along with the 10.5-inch version. Both models came with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS before Samsung unveiled the Lollipop updates.

The 8.4-inch tablet has a Quad HD Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. It is equipped with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera and a 2.1-megapixel front camera.

The Wi-Fi-only version of the tablet is powered by the Samsung Exynos 5420 Octa while the LTE or 4G model uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. The 10.5-inch Wi-Fi and LTE versions also use the same chipsets.

Both the 8.4 and 10.5 model come in 16GB and 23GB storage memory versions, which can be expanded to 128GB using a microSDXC card.
