The "Tomb Raider" franchise got a new spin-off mobile game designed for the Windows 8, Android and iOS devices.

The game, titled "Lara Croft: Relic Run," features an endless runner type of game play that's similar to "Temple Run," according to Game Spot.

Through the collaborative efforts between North America-based indie game studio Simultronics and current "Tomb Raider" developer and publisher Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, "Lara Croft: Relic Run" was launched as a free-to-play game in the Netherlands. It is expected to be released in other countries in the next few months.

Like other endless runner games such as "Temple Run" and "Sonic Dash," the "Tomb Raider" mobile game features the protagonist Lara Croft as she runs through a seemingly continuous path filled with various kinds of obstacles.

However, Crystal Dynamics explained that "Lara Croft: Relic Run" goes beyond typical endless runner games as it incorporates various game play elements found in the "Tomb Raider" series.

Based on screenshots from the game, Croft can run on walls, ride motorcycles and even take on a prehistoric predator to accomplish the objectives.

"Many of you have correctly mused that 'Relic Run' is an adventure runner, and at its core it is, but we feel that it's much more than that," the developer wrote in a blog post.

"'Relic Run' offers a massive amount of diversity in play, allowing for seamless transitions between acrobatic-inspired running, combat, vehicles, and epic boss fights, including but not limited to the return of the infamous T-Rex."

The development studio noted that the soft launch of the mobile game for Dutch gamers is a way for the company to test the game before releasing it worldwide. Crystal Dynamics encouraged those in the Netherlands to try out the game and provide feedback regarding its game play quality and other technical features.
