When Samsung announced its new flagship, the Galaxy S6 and its curvy sidekick, the Galaxy S6 Edge, some fans reportedly criticized the Korean brand for taking away the microSD card slot.

During the previous years, Samsung has stuck with the microSD card slot for its flagship devices and most of its midrangers. This enabled consumers to swap microSD cards whenever they deem fit. Power users who want to 'unlock' their devices and flash custom firmware may also need a detachable microSD card.

Unfortunately, that was not the case with Samsung's latest smartphones.

However, a new report claims that the Korean tech giant may have just heard the cry of its consumers and decided to bring back the microSD card slot in its upcoming smartphone, the Galaxy S6 Active.

Based on a report by GSM Arena, the upcoming rugged handset would boast similar specs to the Galaxy S6, but with the benefit of the microSD card slot. The information reportedly came from a Reddit user who chatted with a Samsung representative.

In the 'interview', the user revealed that Samsung has stripped its flagship with the water-resistant body in order to give users more freedom to use its ports. In addition, it also enabled the manufacturer to develop the Galaxy S6's design better.

On the other hand, the launch of the Galaxy S6 Active sometime this summer would see the return of the microSD card slot, the rugged frame, water resistance, a and a removable battery.

However, in return, Samsung has stripped the S6 Active with the heartrate monitor and the fingerprint scanner which its predecessor had.

Last year, Samsung had problems promoting its Galaxy S5 Active handset because it did not offer anything new to the table compared to then flagship, Galaxy S5.

But this time around, there will be more differences than similarities between the Samsung flagship, and the rugged version. Another alleged addition to the S6 Active is a physical home button.

Just recently, the Korean manufacturer announced another rugged smartphone in the Galaxy Xcover 3. The device is water proof and dust resistant, boasts a 4.5-inch display with 800 x 480 resolution, quad-core CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, and an 8GB internal memory.

The camera department will consist of a 5MP primary shooter, and a 2MP front camera. Rounding up the specs are the microSD card slot, 2,200mAh battery, and Android 4.4.4 Kit Kat out of the box. The device is strictly in the entry-level category, but the report stated that the Galaxy S6 Active could sport a similar look.
