As the notion for wireless charging becomes an increasingly popular trend, Samsung begins dropping clues about upcoming Galaxy smartphones that may support “a new wireless world like never before.”

In particular, the Galaxy S6 is expected to have wireless charging capabilities as the next-generation flagship smartphone of the company.

In a blog post that was shared last Tuesday, Samsung’s IT and mobile department’s lead engineer, Seho Park, explained the significance of introducing wireless charging to consumers and its impact on the use of smartphones.

“It is expected that 2015 will be a landmark year for the growth of wireless charging deployment, as wireless charging stations will begin to appear in more and more public places,” Park said.

As such, Samsung is set to incorporate wireless charging technology in its future smartphones for users to experience a whole new world of wireless capabilities.

“Consumers have been crying out for a simple wireless charging solution that frees them from the need to carry several different chargers for multiple devices,” Park shared.

However, there have been challenges along the way when it comes to integrating wireless technology, including a general consensus with regards to standards. While several wireless charging groups such as the Wireless Power Consortium and the Power Matters Alliance are being considered, there has been no final decision when it comes to the development and licensing of global standard for wireless charging.

Even rival company Apple has yet to support the concept of such technology.

Although there may still be wires provided for the upcoming Galaxy S6, these are expected to be fewer. Following the 2011 release of the first wireless charging pad compatible for the Droid Charge, Samsung has now been selling wireless accessories for several mobile devices such as the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Note 4.

“Wireless charging has come a long way in terms of charging speed as well,” Park pointed out. “Two or three years ago, wireless charging was only 20 to 30 percent as efficient as wired charging. But since then, we have been able to double the charging speed.”

Samsung will be conducting its annual Unpacked event next month in Barcelona. The launching of the Galaxy S6 is expected to be included in the occasion. The entire presentation will be live-streamed at Samsung’s official channel on YouTube.
