Samsung is reportedly further upping its game by developing not just one but two models of the forthcoming Galaxy S6 smartphone.

With the Galaxy S5 as its current flagship device, Samsung is rumored to be releasing a variation that has a metal design, a significant change from its traditional use of plastic in its mobile devices.

According to Business Insider, several sources who know of Samsung’s plans have claimed that a metal frame will be incorporated into a unibody design for one of the Galaxy S6 smartphone models.

Samsung has often incorporated plastic components for its smartphones’ frames as opposed to Apple that makes use of metal accents for the iPhones. With the use of plastic becoming the subject of criticism for Samsung’s devices, the company may have finally gone on to using metal for its upcoming phones, including the Galaxy S6.

Meanwhile, the second variation of the Galaxy S6 that is still being developed will reportedly come with a curved edge, similar to the Galaxy Note Edge. The latter features a curved border in order to add display space for its icons and widgets, allowing users to view more content on the screen.

While such rumors are still to be addressed, Samsung is expected to take an unconventional leap and revamp its traditional designs and specs with the upcoming Galaxy S6.

Although the company is still ahead of their competitors on the smartphone market, Samsung continues to face increased competition from Apple, which released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with wider screens last September.

Other mobile device makers have also stepped up in such market, including Xiaomi and Huawei, which have become increasingly popular choices for users who seek affordable smartphones.

Therefore, Samsung is expected to put the Galaxy S6 forward in such a way that it will be recognized for its distinct features and design, thereby being worth its premium price.

With Samsung being thought to use the codename “Project Zero” for the Galaxy S6, it has then been suggested that the company may be generating the design of the device from scratch.

The Galaxy S6 will reportedly be introduced at the Mobile World Congress this coming February and will run the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Previous reports claimed that the Galaxy S6 may also feature a Quad HD display measuring 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. A 20-megapixel rear-facing camera may also be included.

Samsung is also expected to unveil a new smartwatch that features a round screen, similar to that of the Moto 360 from Motorola.
