Microsoft recently launched a holiday advertisement entitled "Winter Wonderland" that puts the Surface Pro 3 forward against Apple's MacBook Air. The new ad emphasizes the notion that the Surface Pro 3 should be deemed more as a competitor for laptops and not for the iPad or similar tablets.

The tech giant has designed the Surface Pro 3 to boast features that define both a laptop and a tablet, thereby increasing convenience for its users.

Made with magnesium alloy, Microsoft's offering sports a 12-inch ClearType HD display with 2160 x 1440 resolution. Depending on customers' preferences, the Surface Pro 3 comes with an Intel Core 1.6Ghz i3, i5 or i7 processor as well as 4GB or 8GB of RAM. The Surface Pro 3 also features a microSD slot if one prefers to utilize extra storage of up to 64GB.

Interestingly, Microsoft has offered a stylus that goes with the device's touchscreen. After incorporating several new designs, the aluminum-made pen feels heavy in one's hand to avoid the slippery, uncontrolled movement across the screen.

Along with a power charger and connector for attaching an external keyboard, the Surface Pro 3 also features ports for USB 3.0 and MiniDisplay, and an audio jack. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

When it comes to its camera, the Surface Pro 3 offers a 5-megapixel front and rear snappers, both with 1080p HD resolution. With a non-removable battery, the device's cell life can last for a maximum of 9 hours.

As users can look forward to the Windows 8.1 Pro once they get their hands on the Surface Pro 3, this can significantly enhance their experience with the multi-touch display. However, while basic apps have already been installed, the device does not come with an extensive range of creativity and productivity apps as compared to MacBook Air's preinstalled ones.

All in all, the Surface Pro 3's prices range from $799 to $1,949.
